H: Hi. Can we meet you?

Hello, I am Monsurat Ogundijo

H: What do you do in the diaspora and how did you start?
.
I make and sell ready to wear headgear, including turban, accessories, beret and auto-gele. I also work as a make-up artist, as I love beautifying faces for various types of occasions.

Being from a Muslim home, where head covering is considered important, I have loved the use of turbans right from childhood. While the interest continued to grow, I wanted something more fanciful, as I do not like to wear an ordinary cap, it had to be beautiful, classy and unique.

With very few turbans around that tickled my fancy, I hopped unto the idea to create unique styles, and decided to learn the basics and since then, I have not looked back.

H: How has it been since you moved?

Since relocating to Canada in 2019, it has felt like starting all over from scratch. Being new in this environment, It has been quite challenging trying to get visibility for myself and the products, in the sense that very few people know me. In this regard, I have had to build relationships more quickly, networking across various age groups and communities. While this has not been easy, It has certainly proved effective, as my network of potential clients has widened considerably in such a short time.

Nevertheless, I am happy to continue the hard work to build my brand. I always like to be ahead of my game at all times. As I usually say, "say no to boring turbans". Of course there are simple turbans but yet classy when you pay attention to detail while making them.

While I am not yet at my preferred destination in terms of product range and spread, and clientele base, I am closer than I was a few months back. In this regard, my advice to other entrepreneurs out there is to keep moving, breaking new grounds and never quit. Keep up your game and pray hard for success.

Thank you.
